On Saturday 22 July 2023 it will once again be time to run on the trails of the La Thuile Trail. The trail running event, now in its 7th edition, adds a Marathon to Saturday’s programme and presents a new Ultra Trail, this year featuring 70 km, with an improved and very attractive route. Registrations are open from Monday 30th January at 15:00.
In addition to the well-known and successful 25km trail, which in recent years exceeded 300 participants, in 2023 runners will be able to test themselves on an entirely new race, namely the 42km Marathon with astonishing views of Mont Blanc. With its 2500m of elevation gain, this new format will offer runners and enthusiasts the chance to challenge themselves over a classic distance, while enjoying wonderful and wild trails, which will provide breathtaking views along every of the over 42 kilometres.
For lovers of long distance, the organisation is launching the new Ultra 70, an evolved and improved version of the 60km race, won by Salomon athlete Mathieu Blanchard in 2022. Ten kilometres have thus been added to the race, and at the same time, as for the marathon, the organisers tried to include wild and less frequented path sections, such as the section from the Col Chavanne to Colle di Bassa Serra. Along the 70km, the runners will face some 4000m of elevation gain and will eventually reach the Petit St Bernard Pass on the border with France, before facing the last long descent to the finish line.
All three races, scheduled for Saturday 22 July, will start and finish in the Planibel zone, in front of the La Thuile Ski School.
The Vertical from Sunday has been put aside for the time being. The organisers decided to focus their resources on Saturday’s events, expanding the offer on the trail. "With a little regret, we have decided to discontinue the Vertical Kilometer, a spectacular and very scenic race, but one that has seen a slight drop in the number of participants in recent years. We are very excited to present the new Marathon race, and at the same enhanced our Ultra trail, to offer the long distance lovers an even more wild and epic challenge. We are sure that these new races will bring even more people to this beautiful alpine setting for a day of sport and celebration," commented Mattia Jacquemod, a member of the organising committee.

Memorial Edo Camardella
The La Thuile Trail is Memorial Edo Camardella. By organising this race, the organisers want to pay tribute to their friend Edo, a great mountain enthusiast and member of the trail organisation, who passed away in 2019 in an avalanche on Mont Blanc.
